Learning Braille
It was at South Lincolnshire Blind Society that I saw a card showing the Braille alphabet. I wondered how long it would take a sighted person to learn the basics of Braille. I set about teaching myself Braille. By looking at the card and testing myself I had learned; the Braille alphabet, 4 simple short-cut words (“and”, “for”, “the” and “with”) as well as how to display and read numbers using Braille.
I then wrote my first sentence in Braille without looking at the card*.
I wondered how sighted people could learn basic Braille even quicker.
I have been thinking how great it would be if every sighted person understood the simplicity and beauty of Braille. Could this somehow make our world a better place?
I spent many hours developing a one page rapid guide/method for sighted people who want to learn the Braille Alphabet.

* My friend who read the very first sentence I wrote in Braille found 2 minor errors – not bad for a first sentence in a new language!
