Like a lot of people, I’d not heard of Ramsey Hunt Syndrome (RHS) until the singer, Justin Bieber, said that he had been diagnosed with it.
So what is it?
“Ramsay Hunt syndrome (RHS) is a complication of shingles. It is the name given to describe the symptoms of a shingles infection affecting the facial nerve. Shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox (varicella zoster virus, or VZV). As a result of this infection, the facial nerve becomes inflamed and irritated.” This is from www.facialpalsy.org.uk/causesanddiagnoses/ramsay-hunt-syndrome
With this information coming from the www.facialpalsy.org.uk site, there would seem a link between RHS and Bell’s palsy. I note that ‘palsy’ is mentioned 18 times on that page about RHS.
On the page I have linked to (above) the 4th of the listed symptoms of RHS is
- Difficulty closing the eye or blinking on the affected side.
A video (series of videos) covers what to do if the paralysis makes it impossible to blink. In part 2, the narrator says, “Not blinking regularly will mean your eye-lid will get stiff..”. In part 2, how to tape an eye closed to allow sleep – I really had never considered this could be necessary for anyone. This is so seriously horrible for some people.
Why have I suddenly taken so much interest? Well, partly because I am wondering about the rashes so many people seem to be getting since the CoViD injections started. I see “Red Rash” is one of the 6 symptoms mentioned in this mnemonic

This certainly is not from a CoViD injection. RHS has been around much longer. Has RHS increased in 2020, 2021, 2022?
Well there is this statement from January 11, 2021
“Some people have expressed concern about reports indicating an apparently higher incidence of Bell’s palsy following vaccination against Covid-19. Currently there is no evidence that the numbers of reported cases of Bell’s palsy are higher than would be expected in the general population. However we are monitoring the situation and will update this information as further evidence comes to light.

That was one month into the CoViD injections and now it is month 18 of the CoViD injections. I may ask for an update from the Facial Palsy charity as they certainly seem like very nice people.

“Varicella-zoster virus reactivation and idiopathic facial paralysis have often been reported in association with several virus vaccinations, including influenza and hepatitis B. It is therefore not particularly surprising that cases of both conditions in relation to SARS-CoV-2 vaccination have recently been published, as mentioned above.”
The author says, “not particularly surprising” – a kind of understatement!?
I did not see this coming… I mean, I knew the CoViD injections were going to make a lot of people very unwell, yet this rash/paralysis thing I had not appreciate as being so significant… I cannot at this time say here what I have seen/noticed… if you keep following maybe I can say more soon.
